When you use DIY recipes — like this face mask — you know all the ingredients are natural and healthy! With so many chemicals added to cosmetics and body care products these days, it’s important to be careful about what’s in your skincare products. When you make them yourself, it’s everything your body needs and nothing it doesn’t.
This avocado, egg white, and lemon face mask can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove excess oil without drying, and minimize the appearance of pores. Protein-rich egg whites improve skin elasticity; lemon is an astringent, which cleanses and improves the overall appearance of your skin; and avocado is packed full of natural moisturizing oils that balance your skin.
Ingredients:
• ½ Avocado
• 1 Egg white
• 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
• 5 drops essential oil (optional)
How to do it:
1. In a Magic Bullet or other personal blender, whip all ingredients until smooth
2. Clean your face, then cover with the mixture
3. Leave face mask on for 20 minutes
4. Rinse with warm water or in regular shower
You can select your oils based on your skin type or choose essential oils that work for all types like these. Use singly or blend them to achieve pleasing aromas and your own signature face mask. Please note, if you are pregnant or lactating—or have other medical issues—always consult your health practitioner about the appropriateness of essential oils or herbs. These are my favorites:
Bergamot Essential Oil – With its light citrus aroma, Bergamot is a great oil to refresh and calm your spirits not to mention it’s skin soothing and anti-aging properties. Caution: because Bergamot can cause photosensitivity, avoid applying the oil before spending time outside.
Lavender Essential Oil – An all-around soothing, calming, and healing oil; lavender is known for its ability to heal and soothe the skin. The oil has a calming effect that helps ease the emotional aspects of cuts and burns—just as needed as tending the physical ones.
Orange Essential Oil – Cold-pressed from the rinds of oranges, the essential oil has the juicy aroma of the fresh fruit. Both astringent and moisturizing with it’s refreshing and uplifting scent orange and all the citrus oils should have a prominent place in your skin care regime. Caution: like other citrus oils, orange oil can cause photosensitivity, so avoid applying it to exposed skin before spending time out in the sun.
Rose Essential Oil – Inspiring, uplifting, encouraging and used to create a mood of positive self-reflection, 22 pounds of rose petals are gently distilled to make each 5ml bottle. The beautiful floral scent of Rose is cherished in perfumes and skin products. Add a few drops to help moisturize and support the appearance of healthy, youthful-looking skin.
